Tell your stories…
Can you see how telling your stories has purpose & function?
Story-telling is a foundational social technology us human beings. It weaves together information, insights, learning, adventure, questions, and consequences, that provides latticing for our growth and development.
When you tell your stories, you relate to them. And like all relationships, when done with presence, attention, care & listening, telling your story becomes a living thing.
This provides a few valuable functions.
1. You get to grow your stories. In your current perspective, you have different insights & understandings of the story, and what it means to you now. Update your stories so they’re meaningful & relavant for you, here and now. This doesn’t mean doctor or falsify; rather, develop them just as you have developed.
2. Others can have a more nuanced understanding of who you are. This contributes to how they see and relate to you. And these people can then remind you of your stories (especially valuable when you might have forgotten).
3. You help others have a better understanding of how the world works, that only your life experience can provide. And perhaps they learn valuable life lessons that help them, or people in their lives.
You not only get to tell your stories, but also write and re-write them. Wield the tool of stories wisely, and they will ripple effect through you into the world, further than you ever could image.
